If you are travelling through the dreamy heart of Nakhon Ratchasima in Central Thailand and are looking for some unique and quality tourist attractions in the region, you need to explore Lam Phra Phloeng Dam and the Jim Thompson Farm.

The best part about travelling through this part of Thailand is you are off the major tourist routes, which is great for a seasoned traveller.

Jim Thompson Farm

For those of you who don’t know, Jim Thompson was an American businessman who single-handedly helped to turn around the woes of the local Thai silk trade in the 1950s and 60s.

The most startling thing about Thompson is that he disappeared and was never to be found or heard of again. Most believe he was kidnapped and killed by bandits. Others think it was down to some of his business acquaintances. It remains a mystery today.

The Jim Thompson Farm is located in the Pak Thong Chai district of the province and is home of agricultural and eco-tourism attractions. At the farm, you can see the entire process of silk production. Come along to check out the picture-perfect pink cosmos field, lots of flowers, the pumpkin patch and much more.

Take a journey around the Jim Market where you can buy a wide range of fresh vegetable produce, fruit, flowers and more.

The beauty of visiting the Jim Thompson Farm is that the price of tickets is very affordable. At this moment, it costs 150 TB for adults and 100 THB for kids on weekends and 180 THB and 140 THB respectively when visiting at the weekend.

Lam Phra Phloeng Dam

Also located in the Pak Thong district in Nakhon Ratchasima close to the Jim Thompson Farm is the Lam Phra Phloeng Dam, located directly on the river of the same name. Construction of the dam was completed way back in 1963 and was the first of its kind in the region.

The dam has had many problems with sedimentation over the years that has caused lots of erosion, but the function of the dam is significant to irrigate the water so it can generate electricity.

If you are looking for somewhere to come, relax by the river, fish or just take in the stunning surrounding countryside in Nakhon Ratchasima, Lam Phra Phloeng Dam is an awe-inspiring choice.

Lots of locals come to the dam, especially on weekends to fish, swim and have a great time. We would suggest that you do the same. The dam is run and controlled by the Royal Irrigation Department, who keep the place neat and tidy.
