Vajiralongkorn Dam is also a unique tourist attraction that is part of the Thong Pha Phum National Park and an exciting place to visit. Vajiralongkorn Dam is also known as Khao Laem Dam and initially constructed back in 1985. Vajiralongkorn Dam lies right across the famous River Kwai, more commonly known as the Khwae Noi River.
As the first-ever dam in Thailand to supply a water-powered 300 MW hydroelectric power station, it is something to behold. The dam is run and managed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.
The dam took five years to construct and uses 3x 100 MW hydropower generators and has a storage capacity of 8,860 million m3. The concrete surface of the dam scales a height of 92 meters.
If you are looking for something to do around the dam, there is a lake nearby that rents rafts and offers boat tours. You can go swimming and enjoy the scene from another perspective. Make sure you book in advance in regards to the boats because there is quite a lot of demand. Or you visit Pilok, a lovely village in the mountains.
